How does it work?

Once signed up you provide us with your availability, this can be the same each week or different, and you can adjust it as often as you like.

Is it right for me?

Only you can answer that, however our ethos is that our role as physiotherapists is to understand the patients situation and drivers, to provide information, guidance and support and to encourage self efficacy, just like you would in a face to face practice. Working online requires the ability to build good rapport, great questioning and investigative skills and to be a good communicator. We tend to find that patients who seek us out already have a greater leaning towards self efficacy and research has demonstrated that outcomes from this type of care are no different to those of face to face treatments, in fact with the removal of the expectation of the physio to perform some sort of ‘treatment’ the results are often more positive. We have a research archive that signposts the latest papers and encourage our members to share information they have found during their own reading.

How do I get patients?

We match new patients to availability and allocate them accordingly. You will be notified of any upcoming appointments and have access to the patients self evaluation form so you can prepare before the assessment.

Will I see that patient again?

Hopefully yes! We actively encourage patients to re-book with the same therapist for all the obvious benefits of continuing patient relationships and continuity of care. You can book the patients next appointment with them at the end of their appointment if they wish.  However if you cannot match up availability we will offer the patient a choice of speaking with a different therapist.

If you find yourself talking to a patient who has previously seen another physio, don’t worry, you will be given access to all the patients notes (with their prior consent) before your session.

What do I need to sign up?

At risk of stating the obvious, first you need to be a fully qualified physiotherapist with a current HCPC registration and CSP membership. You’ll need to carry your own public liability insurance and medical malpractice insurance (The CSP can provide guidance on this) a UK bank account so we can pay you. Finally a reliable internet connection and a computer with a camera.

Would I be employed?

All of our partner physiotherapists work for themselves, that way we can both be as flexible as we need to be. You can work alongside any other job as you see fit and we have physios working from both the NHS and private sectors. Guidance can be provided on tax if required and it is a relatively simple process to follow.

How do I get paid?

We charge patients at the point of booking so there is no waiting for payment, you can choose to be paid after each appointment has been conducted.  (within 24 hours) after a set period (weekly, monthly etc) or when you reach a certain value. The choice is yours.

How much do I get paid?

We pay £60 for initial assessment appointments as these can last slightly longer (up to 60 minutes)  and £50 for additional treatment sessions (up to 45 minutes). The patient is made aware at the time of booking that these are maximum times. It is up to you to manage the appointment time to ensure you do not overrun just as you would in a physical practice or medical setting. If more time is needed we recommend booking an additional session with the patient.

Can I work elsewhere whilst working with you?

Absolutely! in facr we positively encourage it. We want to be symbiotic to the NHS not draw away from it, we know that NHS work is highly rewarding but doesn;t always pay the best. Rather than leaving to work in the private sector we think our model allows physios to earn extra money on their own terms whilst still providing excellent work to the NHS. Our model encourages those that can afford to pay to reduce the wait times and reduce NHS Waiting lists.

If you work in the private sector we also welcome you to work online with us to generate an extra income.

We don’t stop there however, we also give back a percentage of our net profit by providing free on line physio to people who cannot access regular services and who cannot afford to pay. More details are available on our giving back page.

Do I need experience of delivering online or telehealth treatments?

Not at all, we have a very clear and easy to use online training programme that you can follow in your own time. We can also provide mentorship through your first call and beyond until you feel comfortable. If you find it doesn’t suit you, there are no hard feelings and no obligations to carry on working with us.

What about red flags?

We ask the same questions and look for the same contraindications and warning signs as you would in a clinic. Due to the nature of online physiotherapy we find that we tend to have a slightly lower threshold for referral, making our practice safer.

The same approach applies to assessing patients suitability for treatment and whether you feel comfortable treating a particular patient. We want the best outcomes for our patients and safe working for our physiotherapists so we encourage you to raise concerns and seek out further assistance where required.

What technology do I need?

We started with one physio, a laptop with a built in camera and microphone and an internet connection. That’s all you need to get going. We offer recommendations on how best to set up your work space to provide the best light and reduced background noise. If after a while you want better quality sound and vision we can advise you on what we choose to use, but you probably don’t need any extra kit to get started.

I'm still not sure, can I talk to someone?

Absolutely. Drop us your contact details and we’ll be in touch for an informal chat.
